Apollo Masters Fire

Prior to COVID-19, one of the two lacquer disc production factories in the world burned down. On February 6, 2020, Apollo Masters Corp., based in Banning, Calif. sustained a fire that took 82 firefighters to put out. With Apollo responsible for 70-85% of lacquer production, MDC, a small factory in Japan, was now solely responsible for the world’s lacquer discs. Blank lacquers are usually needed in the first step of the vinyl-making process, as lathes cut specific grooves into these discs, based on the audio recording.
